WORLD No. 1 Datuk Lee Chong Wei will become a father for the first time later this year.

His wife, former shuttler Datin Wong Mew Choo, showed off her baby bump at the Putra Stadium today as she cheered the Malaysian hero in his Maybank Malaysia Open semifinal against Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark.

Chong Wei, chasing a record ninth Maybank Malaysia Open crown, survived a scare before beating Jorgensen 21-13, 17-21, 21-12.

He will now play Indonesia’s three-time Asian champion Sony Dwi Kuncoro in tomorrow’s final.

Sony defeated Japan’s Kenichi Tago 21-12, 19-21, 23-21.

Mew Choo confirmed she is pregnant, but didn’t reveal when the baby is due.

It will indeed be a good present for the baby if Chong Wei can break his record of eight Malaysia Open wins which he currently shares with Wong Peng Soon.
