Khe Wei Doubtful for Maybank Malaysia Open
02 Jan 2013
TOP women’s pair Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei may pull out of the Maybank Malaysia Open Superseries from Jan 15-20, if Khe Wei is unable to recover from a nagging left ankle injury.

National women’s head coach Rosman Razak said the pair who pulled out of the India Open GP last month, have also pulled out from the Korea Open Superseries Premier from Jan 8-13.

“It’s the same old injury, and I really can’t say if she (Khe Wei) would recover in time,” said the coach.

“If she doesn’t, then sadly I would have to pull them out of the tournament (Malaysia Open),” he said, adding there are still four other pairs – Maybank National Circuit Grand Prix winners Amelia Alicia Anschelly-Soong Fie Cho, Goh Liu Ying-Lim Yin Loo, Chow Mei Kuan-Yean Lee Meng and Shevon Lai Jemie-Merylen Ng Poau Leng – who will compete in the Maybank Malaysia Open.

Vivian-Khe Wei last won a tournament in 2011 (Indonesia GP Gold). Last year, they only managed two semifinal appearances – Taiwan Open GP Gold in October, and the Maybank Malaysia International Challenge in November

Rosman added Amelia-Fie Cho who were previously with the Sabah state team, have only been under the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) for the past three months, but have been showing some good progress.

“They did well to win the Grand Prix final (Maybank National Circuit), although their opponents Lydia Cheah-Sonia Cheah are more well known as singles players

The local tournaments will begin with the 100PLUS National Junior Circuit from Feb 27-March 3, while the Maybank National Circuit will be from March 26-30.
