China took home two titles on Sunday as they once again reigned supreme in women’s singles and mixed doubles events.
The wins by world No. 1s Wang Yihan and mixed pair of Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei were their first ever at the Maybank Malaysia Open presented by Proton.
Wang Yihan, who enjoyed a stellar season last year, was notably delighted after beating compatriot and second seed Wang Xin, the 2010 Malaysia Open champion, 21-19, 21-11.
It was her first time winning in a final at Putra Stadium following disappointing defeats in the Uber Cup back in 2010 and last year\'s Malaysia Open.
“I’m actually really happy because this is my first time winning here, after finishing second last year,” said Wang Yihan.
“To be honest, both of us didn\'t play well at all because we were both affected by the drift but I just went out there and played my heart out.”
Mixed doubles pair Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei however had a rather easy match against world No. 2s Xu Chen-Ma Jin, winning 21-12, 21-9.
“We were playing teammates and we couldn’t really get into the game the way we wanted it. It felt like a training match but overall we’re still happy to have won,” said Zhang Nan.
The next Superseries event will be the All England in March.
